Kargil: With the twin objectives of raising awareness among masses about the importance of cleanliness for healthy leaving and about the importance of voting under the SVEEP campaign, District Election Officer (DEO) Kargil Baseer ul Haq Choudhary in presence of General Observer 4-Ladakh Parliamentary Constituency S.K Singh launched a sanitation drive titled Sweep under SVEEP today here at Tourist Facilitation Centre Bemathang.
Superintendent of Police Dr. Vinod Kumar besides all district officers and a large number of employees and police personnel were present on the occasion.
Deputy District Election Officer Kargil Nargis Banoo flagged off the drive which after starting from Baroo Tsoq culminated at Poyen Bridge.
The Deputy Commissioner along with the officers and officials cleaned and collected waste from the banks of Suru River and its surrounding areas.
The DC while impressing upon all the officers and employees associated with the cleanliness campaign to ensure their wholehearted participation also exhorted the people to support the initiative of the district administration. He said that the participation of the people was necessary to spruce up the scattered garbage beyond their houses and to keep Kargil city neat and clean in the future.
The DC while also underlining the importance of cleanliness for healthy living said that cleanliness assumes greater significance and determines the degree of purity of the outer as well as the inner self of a human being.
General Observer S.K Singh also spoke on the occasion and hailed the initiative of the DEO Kargil for having organized the sanitation campaign.
SP Kargil Dr. Vinod Kumar also threw light on the importance of cleanliness for healthy living.
Meanwhile, the campaign continued for the second day today with the participation of district officers and officials in large numbers from various departments who carried out the cleanliness of their office premises and other locations in and around Kargil town.
As a part of the cleanliness drive and in order to inculcate the habit of overall cleanliness among school going children, a mass awareness programme for children is being held on April 26 wherein students from 15 schools of Kargil town would participate in order to raise awareness about overall cleanliness and electoral participation.
