Jammu, October 10: PHDCCI delegation led by Vikrant Kuthiala along with Rakesh Wazir and Kuldeep Gupta, Co-Chairs PHDCCI Jammu Region Chapter today called on Smt. Sushma Chauhan, IAS, Deputy Commissioner, Jammu. PHD Chamber of Commerce & Industry Jammu Region Chapter received a number of representations and requests from Trade and Industry members for early resolution of the issues.
Kuthiala briefed DC Jammu that The Jammu Master Plan 2032 was conceived and planned prior to conception and implementation of 8/4 Lanning of Jammu Akhnoor Highway and Establishment of Metro Rail Network in Jammu City. All set off’s, right off-ways, Building lines, assessment of traffic flow and future requirements were assessed and vetted before taking into consideration these two major projects. He requests that the Master Plan be re-examined in light of these two developments in particular on the roads and areas, where these projects are coming up. He also mentioned that Chamber would be submitting a detailed write-up on the Master Plan separately, very shortly. He also apprised DC Jammu of the concern being faced by the civil society at large and discussed the issues of Extension of a runway at Jammu Airport, Creation of Visitors Car Parking/Pick-up and Drop Off and Creation of 3rd Frisking Point.
Rakesh Wazir requested for the expeditious completion of Jammu- Akhnoor segment of the highway as the construction has totally disrupted commercial activity in the area in addition to making life difficult for the residents due to constant disturbance and lack of proper approach to their establishments. He also drew DC’s attention to the fact that there is no drainage and sewerage system between the stretches from canal head on House side till Bakshi Nagar Bridge. This part of the city has not been included in the drainage and sewerage project. This problem multiplies particularly during the rains when the rainwater from the road floods the houses.
Kuldeep Gupta requested for the construction of a service road from Palm Island Mall to Royal Palm apartments on the lines of the road which has been constructed opposite BSF Headquarters. He also mentioned that due to the ongoing Construction Work of 4 Lanning and Flyover of Jammu-Akhnoor Road, a large number of Street Lights have either become defunct or defective from the stretch of Canal Head to Muthi. As a result, the area is totally devoid of any street lights and an open invitation to anti-social elements. He also mentioned the issues of road level to DC Jammu. The proposed road level of the service lane is not known to any of the residents and commercial establishments in the area. The methodology of connecting existing showrooms and houses to the highway are also not known. He also requested that the proposed road levels and the approaches to all establishment s and houses be informed to the concerned.
PHDCCI mentioned that due to widening of Jammu Akhnoor road the Walk Ways and Greenery along with Canal is substantially reduced. PHDCCI highlighted that the Government has in its possession a land area of 300-400 Kanals near Bhagwati Nagar. With an explosion in the Urban population of Jammu city in the last 3 decades, it has become imperative that Jammu city should have a dedicated park and recreational area. Chamber also requested the Government to develop a World-Class Green Park in Bhagwati Nagar area which should have facilities like Children Playing park, Water Bodies with musical fountains, area for Yogas and Camps, dedicated walking track, JAMMU HAAT on the lines of highly successful DELHI HAAT near AIIMS. JAMMU HAAT can be utilized to highlight the Cuisine, Culture, Art and Handicraft of Jammu Region. A Sound and light show depicting the evolution of Jammu city from Jambu Lochan to present times.
PHDCCI highlighted that such a facility will be an asset to Jammu region and would be another attraction for Yatris to spend an extra day in Jammu, the benefits of which would percolate to both Government as well as all sectors of Jammu region. Chamber requested the Government to look into the feasibility of developing tourist cum Green attractive park along with JAMMU HAAT at Bhagwati Nagar, Jammu.
Chairman further stated that at the moment, Jammu City has no playgrounds, as both M.A.Stadium and Parade Ground is frequently closed for general people due to Official functions. It is suggested that appropriate areas be identified and at-least 3 Playfields be created for use of the general public of the city. He also mentioned that keeping the security scenario in view the internet services were suspended on the 5th of August, now that the conditions are normal in Jammu region PHDCCI requests that on a trial basis these services be restarted from Lakhanpur to Katra as this would provide great relief to the yatris going to Mata Vaishno Devi.
Sushma Chauhan gave a patience hearing and took and a note of the issues being raised by PHDCCI. She mentioned that the issues highlighted shall be considered for early resolutions.
