Ghulam Ahmed Mir
Jammu, April 17: JKPCC Chief and Congress candidate from Anantnag parliamentary constituency GA Mir along with former Minister and Congress contesting candidate from Jammu-Poonch parliamentary seat Raman Bhalla today sought votes and of Kashmiri Migrants at Muthi today. Prominent among those present on the occasion include Former Minister Mulla Ram, Former Minister Raman Matto, Chief Spokesperson Ravinder Sharma, Yogesh Saini, Rural Distt President Hari Singh Chib, Manmohan Singh, Retd. Commissioner Secretary Vinod Koul, RK Bhat, Hera Lal Pandita, Rajiv Saraf, Chaman Lal Koul beside others.
They made a fervent appeal to migrant voters of the Srinagar and Anantnag Parliamentary constituencies to cast their votes in favour of Dr Farooq Abdullah and Ghulam Ahmed Mir to strengthen secular forces. PDP-BJP dispensation has betrayed the people of the State in general and migrants in particular by failing in addressing to their accumulated problems, former Mir said in Jagti today. Mir asked BJP as to what progress has been made in fulfilling the vacancies for the migrant youth under the Prime Minister's package in the past five years. He said the NC-Congress government had undertaken fast-track recruitment keeping in view the age and miseries of the unemployed educated youth. He sought a massive mandate for him, hoping that people will come in large numbers to cast their votes. Mir expressed anguish over delay in renovation of migrant colonies and ensuring regulated drinking water and power supply.
Mir urged upon the KPs to gear up for the ensuing Lok Sabha Elections and ensures his victory with an overwhelming majority, for the fact victory of Congress candidate will be the victory of secular forces in the State. He said that high time for the people to defeat the menace of BJP-PDP combination, which is hell-bent upon to divide people into religious and regional lines for the sake of power. People have realized that the PDP BJP Coalition which is responsible for the agony and anguish of the people and their vote to PDP will not serve their motive. Mir reminded the people of betrayal and backstabbing on the part of PDP with their electorates during 2014 Assembly Elections, when PDP secured votes to checkmate BJP, but what happened after the results is known to people of valley and this time people will vote against anti-people and wrong policies of PDP BJP Coalition, which was fully responsible for the damages caused to life and property in the valley. He said BJP-PDP failed people in every respect, people have realized that they have been misled by PDP to serve its vested interests, but this time the situation is fairly different as there is a deep alienation among the people due to the betrayal by PDP, he felt confident that they (people) will defeat PDP for its anti-people policies in the Valley.
The fire of communalism and polarization that is being fanned and is spreading across the length and breadth of this country needs to be stopped before it engulfs our values and robs us of our rights, our sense of dignity and our special constitutional status, he added. Mir said by pretending to be anti-BJP before the elections, the PDP not only hoodwinked public opinion in the Valley but also became instrumental in strengthening saffron brigade in Jammu. He termed the rhetoric of PDP-BJP in those elections as a fixed match and warned the dubious and communal forces like PDP and BJP not to test the political maturity of the people in Kashmir, saying they are capable to read between the lines.
Mir speaking on the occasion said that with the PDP-BJP coalition government in Jammu and Kashmir tangled in controversies and policy paralysis creating pessimism in the state, 3.5 lakh displaced Kashmiri Pandits have lost hope of any concrete plan for their rehabilitation and resettlement in the Valley. Consensus has eluded them on ways to implement even the plan announced by the previous United Progressive Alliance (UPA) government. Nearly 2,000 youth employed under a package announced by the Congress-led UPA government in 2008 was implemented by the government led by Omar Abdullah between 2010 and 2012, he added. The ‘Agenda of the Alliance' had mentioned taking social and humanitarian initiatives to solve issue confronted the community which migrated en masse from the Valley after the eruption of insurgency in 1990, but no debate was initiated on how to take the first step in this direction. "We have been hearing about proposals and plans, but nothing seems to have been done on the ground," he said."The state government maintained total silence and the same old assurances were being given. The community expects the Centre to at least implement plans announced by the previous Congress-led government in 2008," he said. "We expected the BJP to take some immediate steps to resolve their issues, but are hearing the same old rhetoric. Coalition partners used their energy in unnecessary controversies," he maintained. On April 25, 2008, then Prime Minister Manmohan Singh announced Rs 1,618-crore employment-cum-rehabilitation package for displaced Pandits.
Apart from creating unimaginable infrastructural facilities across Jammu and Kashmir, Congress continued the spree of growth and development, whether it was the creation of new administrative units, the opening of health centres, new ITI, Polytechnic, degree colleges and etc, Mir added.
Speaking on the occasion, Bhalla described G.A. Mir as a leader of masses, who has always remained steadfast to serve the people to the best of his ability, he urged upon the people to vote for G.A. Mir and ensure his victory with a thumping majority. Bhalla raked up the BJP's performance on the governance and development front, alleging that it had been "equally disappointing". "The state witnessed one of the worst periods of governance and development deficit in recent times. "Unity against these forces is the need of the hour and this is an opportunity to come together and rise above our differences to stand in defence of our dignity and respect.NC and Congress have decided to fight these elections together "with the sole intention of ensuring the comprehensive defeat of the politics of communalism, polarization and divisiveness. Our success in this battle of principles depends on our ability to forge unity among our ranks in the pursuit of this common objective," Bhalla added. People are duty-bound to consider the ramifications of any callousness in these elections as it is their duty to eradicate this menace from our state " Bhalla said. "We will protect the state from the onslaught of those entities and forces who are hell-bent on setting this country on fire. This coming together of National Conference and Congress is not for power or out of the lure of the perks of power but a sincere effort to stop the march of communalism and bigotry from entering Kashmir," Bhalla said in his address. Urging people to exercise their democratic right carefully, Bhalla said fascist forces have no place in Kashmir that has been the abode of saints and sages for centuries. "We cannot allow communal forces to take centre-stage in a place known for its composite culture", he said and slammed the BJP for its deceptive campaign during the 2014 parliamentary and assembly elections. He said the party cadre would ensure landslide victory of Mir in the upcoming elections from Anantnag seat.
Terming five years of Modi rule as worst in the history of this country, Mulla Ram said that it becomes evident from the programmes and policies of the party, as to what extent they have succeeded in spreading hatred among people on every issue. He said that the BJP has negated the mandate given to it by the country in 2014 by indulging in cheap politics. On Article 35A and 370, he said that these are our identity of the state and its people and any attempt of scrapping these will have serious ramifications. He said that State Subject law should not be tinkered with and the Centre should defend this in the apex court.BJP has failed to deliver the promises made in 2014 and to win the forthcoming elections, the party and its leaders are making such statements which have no relevance in the overall development of this country, he said, adding "Modi ji has never talked about the promises he made."Where are 2 crores jobs, where is black money, what about the economic growth of the country?,” he asked, adding that time has come to vote out the BJP in ensuing elections.
