Discusses activity wise timelines for internship and starting of M. Sc. Nursing
JAMMU, JULY 27: The 34th Governing Body meeting of the Shri Mata Vaishno Devi College of Nursing (SMVDCoN), Kakryal, which was held here today comprehensively discussed and finalised the activity-wise timelines for starting M. Sc. Nursing Programme in the college by 2020.
In this context, the Governing Body opined that to begin with, the M. Sc. Nursing Programme should be started in the identified specialities which have a wider scope for employment in health care so that the students after passing out from the SMVDCoN find suitable placements. The meeting emphasised the need for completing all the activities, securing NOCs and accomplishing various other requisite procedures and formalities as per the envisaged timelines to commence the classes of the M. Sc. Nursing Programme by July 2020.
The Governing Body also finalised the schedule of pre-placement activities so that maximum number of students of the SMVDCoN find job placements in the leading health institutions within and outside the country. These activities will, interalia, include imparting training in resume writing techniques, mock aptitude tests and interviews, group discussions, communication skills, preparation for IELTS, TOEFL and NCLEX as well as organising classes for various competitive examinations.
The Governing Body chaired by Maj. Gen. S. K. Sharma (Retd), Member Shrine Board; was attended by Mr Simrandeep Singh, Chief Executive Officer, Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine Board; Dr V. Verma, Dean, SMVDU; Dr. (Brig) M. M. Harjai, Administrator, SMVDCoN; Mr. M. M. Gupta, Chief Engineer, SMVDSB; Dr. J. P. Singh, Senior Consultant, Neuro Surgery, SMVDNSH; and Dr. Shailla Cannie, Principal of the College.
Emphasising the need for according very high focus on the internships of the students so that they could gain sufficient real job experience and expertise, the GB stressed the need for exploring the possibilities of arranging internships for the students in the leading health institutions in the country.
The GB also took stock of the to-date status of construction of infrastructure of the SMVDCoN and was informed that two hostel blocks comprising 96 rooms with a capacity for accommodating 3 students in each room and two residential blocks for faculty and staff of the Nursing College are coming up as per the envisaged timelines.
