Election Commission of India today barred UP Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath from campaigning in elections for three days from April 16
Uttar Pradesh, April 15: The Election Commission on Monday placed a temporary ban on election campaigning by Uttar Pradesh chief minister Yogi Adityanath and BSP supremo Mayawati for violating the model code of conduct.
The commission’s orders came hours after the Supreme Court told the panel that it could not drag its feet and had to act promptly against poll code violations. The court had given the poll panel time till tomorrow to report on the action taken against the two prominent politicians for their controversial speeches.
Chief Justice Gogoi directed a senior representative of the Commission to be present in court on Tuesday to assist it in examining its power. The Court was considering a PIL seeking guidelines to curb communal speeches during the election campaign.
