Ramban Jan 10: Fairoz Khan Congress Leader & Former National President NSUI addressed a press conference in Ramban, while targeting the BJP led administration for daydreaming, only working in Social media and just all work is just attending VC’s only.
He added while people of J&K UT are suffering from basic necessities due to snowfall, rains & BJP led administration is in deep slumber. Every winter in J&k one major challenge has remained connectivity, electricity, and water – the three main things, which seem to vanish when it snows. He said that in Ramban district almost all link roads are still closed despite machinery on the job. Several patients struck at home at Mahoo, 6 feet of snow with no road connectivity and no medical aid facility in Khari Mahoo. Dhardhie & Pogal.
Dooligam, Changloo, Banihal, Mangit, Khari Mahoo, Pogal , Panla, Alinbass, Hochak , Pristan, Rajgarh, Chamalwa, Neel , Trigam , Tangar , Pria, karma, sawani, Kriya, Sanasar. Battni, kabbi, Khatter, Sumber,Kali Masta Gool, Dheeda, Dachan, Mhakund, Charna Genote, Ballihote, Gandoth, Ghari kamit etc have recived heavy snowfall & max roads are still closed due to heavy snowfall and rains. Power shut in almost all areas of Banihal assembly segment & also in some areas of Gool, Ramban, Rajgarh and Batote. Fruit plant trees damaged in Khari & Pogal Paristan Tehsil. Several houses were also damaged in higher reaches of Banihal & other hilly areas of Ramban district.
The Jammu and Kashmir administration has failed to address these issues of people when there is bad weather. Every year snow falls in higher reaches of ramban, lessons should have been learned. But nothing was learned at all. Development can’t just be macadamized by roads alone. All the tehsils in district Ramban i.e Pogal Paristan, Ramsoo, Khari, Banihal, Batote, Rajgarh, Ramban & Gool Sangaldan received more or less snow & even some areas received 2 to 6 feet. The administration has to act swiftly to offset hardship faced by the people in the wake of snowfall in the above said areas & clear all roads asap.
Fairoz Khan said that the administration was ill-prepared to cope up with the expected snowfall in the J&K as was already predicted by the Meteorological Department. He added the authorities’ tall claims about their alertness have been deflated by the massive power shutdown, highway & link road blockades, damages to water supply lines, scarcity of ration, water-logging and other difficulties faced by the people across J&K.
He said although a heavy snowfall is not something new to the UT given its climatic conditions and topography, the administration seems resistant to change its rusty work culture.
Referring to the problems caused to the people by the latest snowfall resulting in massive power breakdown which has plunged the hilly areas into total darkness, he added that the administration has to expedite the restoration of power supply in these areas, so that the people have will have sigh of relief under biting cold in absence of alternative heating arrangements.
To meet the challenges, the higher-ups in administration need to ensure better coordination between various departments, especially those providing essential services.
He also asked the government to constitute committees to assess the losses caused to property in hilly areas of district Ramban and compensate the affected persons accordingly.
He also said that the government would ensure that there was no scarcity of essential commodities including LPG, kerosene oil and sugar & foodgrains.
Fairoz Khan said that the Elections are the only solution to the problems of people, the delimitation report should be made public as soon as possible, as the people of jammu & Kashmir should have proper time to give their suggestions & elections will be held soon, so that representatives will lead the government. He added that before elections the statehood should be restored or when times come people of J&K will show their power to the BJP.
