Jammu: Panic has gripped non-local workers in Kashmir after a series of attacks against them and many have now started fleeing the Valley.A group of non-local workers on Monday reached Jammu railway station to go back to their native states. JKPCC Vice President and former Minister Raman Bhalla reached Railway Station to express solidarity with them. During interaction with former Minister, they said that the situation is bad, non-locals are being targeted, Vendors and labourers are being targeted and they cannot stay back in Kashmir in these conditions," they said."Everybody is scared. Earlier vendors were targeted on the roads, but now people are being attacked in their rooms. We decided to leave after two non-local persons were killed in Kulgam on Saturday," one ice cream seller, said. They wanted to continue work but how can they stay back in Kashmir when there is a threat of getting killed even in their rooms. If this thorn is taken out and there is peace, they will think of returning to Kashmir," said one of them. They further told Bhalla that there is a lot of fear among the non-local migrants, their families back home are crying and asking them to return soon. They are very scared after they heard the news of the killing of migrant workers.
Bhalla said that this senseless carnage is highly reprehensible which has no place in a civilized society. Just after a day when two labourers were killed in Srinagar and Pulwama, this heart-wrenching incident from Kulgam has once again sent waves of fear and panic among the non-local residents,” he said.Bhalla urged that the administration must ramp up their investigations and put in satunch efforts to catch the culprits who try to create an atmosphere of terror in the valley.“These vicious forces who desire to disturb peace in J&K actually live on fear-mongering. There exists no legitimacy for this outrageous killing spree where innocent, defenceless labourers are target killed. Congress strongly condemns these shameful & inhumane attacks as these brutal forces have no respect for the sanctity of life,” he said.He termed the incidents as extremely barbaric, reflecting the inhuman nature of perpetrators behind these attacks.
There are no words to condemn these killings. Our heads hang in shame. Bhalla said that killing of non-local labourers is highly disgraceful as no words can ever compensate for the pain felt by their families.“What logic can be given to the children who lost their breadwinner father in this senseless bloodshed? No words can deliver solace to them and nothing can bring back their loved ones,” he remarked. Furthermore, he expressed his profound solidarity with the bereaved family in this hour of despair and also prayed for eternal peace to the departed soul.“I convey my heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family. We can never recompense for this huge loss but still I urge the J&K administration to provide adequate ex-gratia to the families of these labourers who were killed in this recent spate. Besides, it will be most humane if their corpses are handed over to their families so that they can at least perform the last rites of their loved ones as per custom,” he asserted.
Bhalla said the mindless violence causing bloodshed of innocent and poor people is adding to the sufferings of people in Jammu and Kashmir. “Radical forces have only added to the woes of the people and such actions are highly culpable. Violence in any of its manifestations is always unacceptable and will yield nothing except for further death and destruction in this region,” Bhalla added. He reiterated that the vicious cycle of death has incurred heavy losses to human lives in J&K besides creating a stressful environment for the whole population living here. “The forces inimical to peace have wreaked havoc to the socio-economic conditions of the people during the last over three decades and it is high time for such incidents to be stopped now,” he observed.Bhalla demanded stern action against culprits who are responsible for these barbaric acts and appealed to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah to end political uncertainty and insecurity prevailing in the minds of the people of J&K.Bhalla demanded that the Prime Minister Narendra Modi should seriously look into the issue and direct authorities concerned for immediate stringent measures to ensure that killings of innocent people are stopped.
Meanwhile Bhalla hit out at the BJP government for its “total failure” to handle the Kashmir situation which is at its worst after 1990 with minorities and peace-loving people feeling unsafe and insecure after incidents of targeted killings by terrorists.PCC leader questioned the BJP for its “utter failure” to ensure the safety of innocent people in Kashmir when the law and order are directly under home ministry in UT. Bhalla expressed concern over the deterioration in the situation in Kashmir due to the “wrong policies” of the BJP government and its mishandling of the situation. BJP government can’t escape responsibility for the present mess and current security situation in the valley, he said. He said that the Government should ensure safety and security of minorities in Kashmir and elsewhere because the lawlessness has taken its toll of many due to absence of adequate security measures.
