Jammu: Representatives of Chamber of Commerce and Industry Jammu led by its President Arun Gupta along with Senior Vice President Anil Gupta, Secretary General Gaurav Gupta and Secretary Rajesh Gupta called on Chief Secretary Dr Arun Kumar Mehta at Civil Secretariat Srinagar on Saturday and had an amicable discussion on the Charter of Demands already shared with Government.
CCI said that it was a very fruitful meeting that Government is concerned with the issues but at the same time the practical hurdles are also to be seen. Whereas SOP to protect public from Coronavirus cannot be ignored and at the same time verdict of High Court is also to be respected. Government assured that smooth running of trade and commerce is also very important to boost the economy of UT and well being of its Citizens.
It is a matter of fact that Govt has already allowed the gathering in Banquet halls at twenty five percent of its capacity and if Corona remains under control the increase in gathering shall be further reviewed and increased. The CCI Jammu do understand that auction of liquor shops took place on the directions of High Court of Jammu and Kashmir and further upheld by Supreme Court yet it had requested the Government to examine the excise policy and review it to accommodate the old licensees who are in dire need of it as they are unable to meet the both ends meet by loosing their respective liquor shops.
On the issue of allowing sale and purchase of agricultural land to Mahajans, Khatris, Sikhs , Jain etc CS conveyed us that the issue has already been discussed with LG and it will get resolved soon. On the issue of Liquor Bars suitable order has already been issued by Excise Department and these bars have got time extension upto 31-12-2021.
The issue of obtaining NOC by Bars is again due to the directions of Hon’ble High Court of Jammu and Kashmir and remedial measures can be obtained by adopting legal course. On the opening of Reliance Retail outlets in Jammu , the assurance was given that issue will be handled as per law and shall be examined keeping in view that the interest of traders is also protected. CCI Jammu appreciates the introduction of e files in darbar move thereby avoiding huge cost of transportation. As such Darbar move is not a real issue. It is informed that Darbar is the place where the administration that is LG and CS are sitting and running the administration. CCI Jammu thanked CS for issuing directions to DCs and Forest Secretary to take effective measures on the mining issues for price control and early environment clearances. Worthy Chief Secretary stated that Chamber of Commerce and Industry is always welcome to give its input afterall Administration is for good governance and for the welfare of its citizens, trade and commerce and to boost industrialisation, tourism and for the over all economy, safety, and welfare of its citizens. He shared that Anti National elements shall be handled as per law and law takes its own recourse to maintain peace and curb terrorism in the UT. It was apprised that very soon Government is going to put Revenue Records in public domain - “Apki Jamin, Apki Nigrani”.
The issue of One Nation One Tax was brought to the attention of CS that passenger tax on commercial vehicles needs to be reviewed and annulled; Cinema Halls should also be allowed with fifty percent capacity for those who are vaccinated twice. The Government may also review to give one time Amnesty to reduce the arrears of power bills. Arun Gupta expressed gratitude to CS for patient hearing and on his assurance for an amicable resolution of its demands as discussed.
