There is no doubt that teachers are the source of eternal light and inspiration in Indian culture and the rise of renowned names like Swami Vivekananda have taken this sacred bond between Guru and Shishya to another level making it imperative to maintain this rich culture of the subcontinent at all costs.
This was stated by senior BJP leader and former deputy chief minister Kavinder Gupta while addressing a program in connection with Guru Purnima in Kathua on Saturday.
Giving an example of sages that existed in the country, the former Deputy Chief Minister said that it was our magnificent culture that pupils used to learn a lot from their Gurus to lead a principled life and remain away from worldly things which were full of distraction and illusion. He however said that unfortunately youth today is running after easy money and is distracted by the glare of modern society.
“In such times, it is important that both teachers and students take a reality check to understand the need of the hour and work towards the golden rule-Guru Brahma, Guru Vishnu, Guru Devo Maheswaraha, Guru Saakshaat Parambrahma, Tasmai Sri Gurave Namaha, which means ‘Guru is Brahma, Guru is Vishnu, Guru is Lord Maheshwara. Guru is verily the supreme reality, sublime prostrations to him’.’
The former Deputy Chief Minister said that the preservation of rich cultural values is the key to save the young generation from disaster. He said that teachers are the role models of the students and they should maintain the sanctity of this responsibility while on the other hand students also need to understand their teacher's perspective of the world and must acknowledge their mentor’s experience and taste of life.
The senior BJP leader said another virtue of Indian society is communal harmony and brotherhood which should be retained by the people at all times. He said that the bonhomie between varied cultures which co-exist in India holds the key to progress as unrest among communities is the biggest hurdle in the journey of development. He said that the need for the time is that people of all hues and shades should come together and remain vigilant against those entities which wanted to vitiate the atmosphere by sowing the seeds of the communal divide or encouraging people to follow the path of violence.
