Poonch:- In line with the global outcry for saving the environment, the Indian Army has undertaken the ‘Go Green’ initiative. As part of the initiative, awareness lectures are being conducted for villagers to familiarise them with the importance of trees and the benefits of keeping the environment green. Simultaneously, tree plantation is being encouraged through local governing bodies.
In one such event at Jedawali Gali and Satharban villages of Poonch district, Indian Army personnel interacted with the villagers including the Sarpanchs. After the interaction, a pledge was taken by all present, to take forward the plantation drive in their village. This initiative by the Indian Army has struck a positive chord with the villagers and is sure to bring about a change in the green cover of the area in the long term. A large number of sample trees was planted by attendees.
