Jammu, May 08: From a scintillating season in 2018, Red Bull Campus Cricket returns to bowl over budding cricketers in the country. Taking the competition up one more notch, the global T20 college cricket tournament has added two new cities (Dharamshala and Meerut) to its roster and will witness the highest participation ever over 300 colleges across 30 cities. Red Bull Campus Cricket 2019 city qualifiers are taking place from 3rd February to 12th March across 30 cities in India – Delhi, Jaipur, Lucknow, Chandigarh, Jammu, Dehradun, Dharamshala and Meerut
After the city rounds and the city eliminators, Chandigarh, Jammu and Dehradun champions played 2 matches each on 15th and 16th April 2019 where DAV College Chandigarh won both their matches and qualified for National Finals in Jaipur. The other 3 city champions Delhi Jaipur and Lucknow also competed in Delhi for the other regional final in the North for the other national finals spot on 19th and 20th April 2019.DAV College Chandigarh beat Science College Jammu in the first match by 57 runs. Science College, Jammu won the toss and chose to bowl first. Match Scorecard: DAV college Chandigarh - 184/5 (20 Overs); Science college Jammu- 127/9 (20 overs ) Sanyam from DAV College won Man of the Match award for scoring 87 runs in 60 balls which included 9 fours 2 sixes.DAV College Chandigarh beat DAV College Dehradun by 38 runs. DAV Chandigarh College won the toss and chose to bat first. Match scorecard: DAV college Chandigarh - 151/7 (20 Overs); DAV Dehradun - 113/10 (18.1overs) Rohit from DAV Chandigarh College won Man of the Match For picking up 3 wickets and giving away just 9 runs in 4 overs which included a maiden over.
DAV College Dehradun beat Science college Jammu by 9 wickets in the last game but could not qualify for the National Finals. The top two teams from each zone will compete in the National finals, where the teams will play in the knockout rounds of quarterfinals, semifinals and finals respectively. The National winner will then represent India in the Red Bull Campus Cricket World Series Championship 2019. Past winners from India that have gone on to represent the country at the World Championships are Rizvi College, Mumbai; DAV College, Chandigarh; Swami Shraddhanand College, Delhi; and MMC College, Pune. Shubham Nagawde, part of MMC College, the winner of the National final of last year’s competition said, “In India, the love and passion for cricket are incomparable to any other sport.
Red Bull Campus Cricket is a way to discover raw talents while testing them in different matches at the national level and finally pitching them into international games to polish these talented individuals and bringing the best out of them. Now, with Rajasthan Royals coming on board, Red Bull Campus Cricket is a platform offering potential player trials to campus cricketers like me and groom India’s raw talent which will eventually help Indian Cricket.”Red Bull Campus Cricketing stars like KL Rahul, Karun Nair, Shradul Thakur and Niroshan Dickwella have represented their country at the international level. Cricketers like Manan Vohra, Siddhesh Lad, Himanshu Rana, Abhimanyu Easwaran, Anukul Roy, Ruturaj Gaikwad, Ricky Bhui have also reaped the benefits of Red Bull Campus Cricket by earning IPL contracts. Red Bull athlete KL Rahul was the top scorer in the 2013 edition of the competition and credits RBCC to his success at the domestic and international level.
