Jammu, December 26: Veteran leader and Former Minister Thakur Randhir Singh National Founder President Aromatic Plants Growers Association of India, recognized by Ministry of Agriculture, Govt of India welcomed the renaming the all-weather Rohtang tunnel which will change the fortunes of the region as it will provide the all-weather connectivity to remote areas, promote tourism and reduce distance.
Former Ladakh affairs minister Thakur Randhir Singh who took Indira Gandhi to Ladakh and forcefully proposed all-weather road to Ladakh both through Zozila and Rohtang but unfortunately it took fifty-year for this project and Mr Singh congratulated Prime minister Narendra Modi and Defence minister Rajnath Singh naming the project on the name of great leader Atal Bihari Vajpayee.
Thakur said the tunnel is being considered as strategic as it will provide connectivity to Ladakh which generally remains cut off by road from Kashmir for four to five months during winter due to heavy snowfall. Thakur as a Ladakh affairs minister opened the Ladakh for the Tourists both national and International and opened the highest motorable road at Khardungla.
He took up this decision as a leader of the Indian delegation to PATA (Pacific Area Travel Association) convention in Tokyo Japan in Feb-Mar,1973 which was welcomed by the Japanese. Singh said Article 370 has marred the development of the most department of region of the state Ladakh and also Jammu and hill area of Kashmir. The three families which ruled the state have taken all of us hundreds year back. The corruption among politicians, bureaucrats and their henchmen have spoiled the political atmosphere in the state. Singh demanded action against them.
