Kargil: A cleanliness drive “SWEEP under SVEEP” under Systematic Voters Education and Electoral Participation (SVEEP) campaign was organized at Drass and Shakar Chiktan Sub Division here on Monday.
At Drass the drive was attended by the Sub Divisional Magistrate (SDM) Drass, District Panchayat Officer and Nodal Officer SWEEP under SVEEP, a large number employees belonging to different departments, police personnel, members of the Taxi Union and a large number of school going children.
The sanitation drive was carried out at different locations of Drass town including Khandyal Nallah to Lal Chowk, Gosiya Masjid to SDM Office including Higher Secondary School Campus, Goshan Road along the Nallah to Bearass Bridge, Police Station to Marpo Choo Nallah and other locations.
Heaps of garbage were collected at different locations which were later transported and disposed-off at landfill through the machinery deployed by Municipal Committee, Mechanical Division and Border Roads Organization.
People were requested to ensure the use of separate dustbins for wet and dry waste before handing them over to waste disposal agencies. They were also requested to participate enthusiastically in the electoral process to strengthen the roots of democracy and resolve to cast their vote responsibly on May 6.
At the culmination of the cleanliness drive the participants took part in the signature campaign “Yul to Polling Station” held on the occasion and expressed their firm resolve to cast their vote in the upcoming General Elections.
At Shakar Chiktan the drive was held from various locations from KGBV Residential School Khardoon to Manglishon.
Around 250 Government employees, Government and private school children, members of the Merchant Association as well as the local people participated in the drive with great enthusiasm.
Meanwhile, a cleanliness drive was also held at the premises of PWD Office Complex Baroo during which the officers, engineering and non-engineering staff carried out the cleanliness of the office complex and surrounding areas.
