Archers Mr Rakesh Kumar and Ms Jyoti Balian with their Coach
Katra, April 26: In the 5th Fazza World Ranking Para Archery Tournament held in Dubai recently, Mr. Rakesh Kumar, Ms. Jyoti Baliyan and Ms. Nisha Devi, trainees of Shrine Board’s Sports Complex Coaching Centre, Katra, participated in the tournament along with Mr. Kuldeep Vaidwan, Archery Coach of the Board.
In the mixed compound event, the Indian team comprising Mr. Rakesh Kumar and Ms. Jyoti Baliyan won bronze medal defeating their rivals of Brazil by 148-145 points. On the basis of their performance in this tournament, Mr. Rakesh Kumar and Ms. Jyoti Baliyan will now participate in the selection trials being held at SAI Aurangabad on 6 and 7 May for the forthcoming World Para-Archery Championship to be held in the Netherlands in June this year.
Mr. Simrandeep Singh, Chief Executive Officer, Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine Board has congratulated Mr. Rakesh Kumar and Ms. Jyoti Baliyan and their Coach, for the appreciable performance in the tournament.
It is pertinent to mention that special coaching camps are organised at the Shrine Board’s Sports Complex in the various disciplines to impart specialised coaching to the sportspersons. As a result of the specialised coaching, provision of state-of-the-art types of equipment and other facilities, the Sports Complex has emerged as a hub of sports and games and the sportspersons groomed and trained at this complex have been showing promising results at various competitions being held at different levels.
