Jammu, November 22: Jammu and Kashmir has achieved the highest road length in the country this year so far under a Centre's rural roads' programme with the completion of around 11,400 kilometres covering 1,838 habitations, officials said on Friday.
This includes 1,161 km for the current financial year against the total sanctioned road length of 19,700 km, they said.
Srinagar, November 22: The railways has significantly increased the frequency of trains in Kashmir from Friday and extended daily run-time to allow more passengers to use the service, officials said here.
There will be 14 train services on Friday and 16 services daily from Saturday onwards between various stations on the railway line in Kashmir, they said.
New Delhi, November 22: There is a proposal to outsource commercial and onboard services of a few trains, but no large-scale privatisation plans are underway, the Railway Ministry informed Parliament on Friday.
In reply to a query in the Rajya Sabha, the ministry said that while private players will be allowed to run trains, the responsibility of its safety lay with the railways.

Jammu, November 22: The Centre has released Rs 836.64 crore out of the sanctioned allocation of Rs 900 crore under a financial assistance programme for vital health projects in Jammu and Kashmir, an official spokesperson said on Friday.
Out of the total 144 ongoing and new health projects approved under the Prime Minister's Development Package (PMDP), 48 projects have been completed and will be made functional soon, the spokesperson said.

Guwahati, November 22: A Japanese student on an exchange programme at IIT-Guwahati has been found dead inside a hostel room, police said.
The body of the student, identified as that of Kota Onoda (22) was found hanging from the ventilator of a bathroom in Lohit hostel at 3.30 pm on Thursday, a spokesperson of IIT-Guwahati said.
After receiving information, a police team reached the spot and recovered the body.
